  • Virgin Media lays on Old Trafford travel for season ticket holders with free coaches to Friday night game
  • New sponsor ensures no fan will pay more than £20 to watch Saints take on Man Utd

Virgin Media has today unveiled two huge initiatives designed to help Saints fans march in style to the club’s first away game of the season.

With Southampton’s match against Manchester United having been switched to the night of Friday 19th August, Virgin Media has decided to step in and make the trip more manageable for supporters wanting to witness Claude Puel’s new-look Saints go head-to-head with José Mourinho’s United.

Virgin Media is committed to being more than a shirt sponsor. The company has immense pride at having their brand on the Southampton shirt but also wants to make sure that it doesn’t stop there for Saints fans. As the UK’s only TV provider to offer all the sporting action on Sky Sports and BT Sport and in one package, Virgin Media believes that football should be about the fans.

Virgin Media will be laying on free coach travel for traveling Season Ticket holders to help them get to the game and back in comfort, meaning fans can sit back, relax and arrive at Old Trafford ready to give their full backing to the team. Importantly, they do not have to be concerned with transport timetables for the return journey.

The UK’s award-winning TV and ultrafast broadband provider will also be subsidising the cost of tickets, meaning adult fans will pay just £20 and under-16s as little as £10.

Kerris Bright, Chief Marketing Officer at Virgin Media commented:

“Our partnership with Southampton Football Club will always be about more than the shirt. We believe fans should be at the heart of football and we think that Saints fans deserve a helping hand both on travel and ticket costs to support the team on the first away game of the season.”

Southampton Chief Executive Officer Gareth Rogers commented:

“Our supporters are the foundation of this great club, and Virgin Media’s desire to put our fans at the heart of what they do was a key factor in the decision to partner with them.

“We are delighted that Virgin Media has made such a generous offer to help as many fans as possible attend what is sure to be a fantastic match.”
