Kick off your big week on Sky Sports

Domestic football, NBA, cricket and golfing action await you in a cracking week of sport

The new year is officially here and that means there’s a whole load of top-drawer sporting action heading your way

This week on Sky Sports

How’s that New Year’s resolution going? Making the most of that new gym membership? Having a dry January or one of the wetter variety? Whatever your situation, you can always count on the world’s top athletes to put your efforts to shame. And Sky Sports has got loads of them!

The next seven days are packed full of some of the best sport in town, including big games in the Premier League and Championship League, Test Cricket in South Africa, the first leg of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and some seriously brilliant basketball.

Read on for all the highlights…

South Africa v Pakistan: Third Test

From Friday 11 January, 9.30am, Sky Sports Cricket/HD (CH 514/504)

Michael Arthur takes his flagging Pakistan side to Johannesburg for the final Test – a place where they’ve found victory just twice before. The last day of their previous long-format fixture saw them give up all ten wickets to New Zealand on home soil. Arthur, a former Proteas coach, has told them to be “tougher in the crucial moments”.

Sky Bet Championship

From Friday 11 January, Sky Sports Football/HD (CH 513/503)

Whisper it quietly at Elland Road, but there’s a genuine belief that this could be the year Leeds return to the top flight for the first time since 2004. Keeping the very decent double act of Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernández fit is crucial, as is beating perennial play-off hopefuls Derby, who also haven’t given up hope on those automatic spots. Down at The Den, Millwall are no doubt looking to to repeat exactly what they did in the same week last season – start a 17-game unbeaten run that took them from 15th to six, and an inch within the play-offs. Tough crowd.

Leeds United v Derby County, Friday 11 January, 7pm, Sky Sports Football/HD (CH 513/503)

Millwall v Blackburn Rovers, Saturday 12 January, 5.15pm, Sky Sports Football/HD (CH 513/503)

West Ham United v Arsenal

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini

Saturday 12 January, 11.30am, Sky Sports Premier League/HD (CH 512/502)

We don’t want to alarm anyone, but has anyone else noticed Manuel Pellegrini has been steadily morphing into Arsene Wenger? Next up for the Chilean is his new doppelganger’s old club, who haven’t lost in East London since 2007. They’ve scored 25 goals in those ten games, but with The Hammers finally figuring out how to create square holes for their expensively assembled square pegs, that record could be in danger. Just don’t let Pellers anywhere near a big puffer jacket. Read on for more games to get stuck into.

Everton v Bournemouth, Sunday 13 January, 1pm, Sky Sports Premier League/HD (CH 512/502)

Tottenham v Manchester United, Sunday 13 January, 4.15pm, Sky Sports Premier League/HD (CH 512/502)

Manchester City v Wolves

Monday 14 January, 7pm, Sky Sports Premier League/HD (CH 512/502)

Before losing to Chelsea, Manchester City had been behind to just one team this season. And that (if you haven’t already guessed where we’re going with this) was Wolves. In addition to that draw, Nuno Espírito Santo’s well-drilled pack have taken points from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United. And wouldn’t Wolves beating Chelsea, and Chelsea beating Manchester City just epitomise this funny old game?

Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship

Tommy Fleetwood

From Wednesday 16 January, Sky Sports Golf/HD (CH 515/505)

On your marks, get set… GO! No, we haven’t got the sport wrong. We’re simply warming up to announce the first run of the Race to Dubai, which carries a cool $7 million prize fund this year. Back-to-back winner Tommy Fleetwood is returning, alongside Dustin Johnson and his US Ryder Cup teammate, Brooks Koepka, who, after winning his second Major and bagging the world number one spot in 2018, will have his eyes on the rather lucrative prize. Let’s just hope he banks with HSBC or there could be trouble.

NBA

Milwaukee Bucks @ Atlanta Hawks, Sunday 13 January, 8.30pm, Sky Sports Arena/HD (CH 518/508)

The pressure’s on for the Hawks. Last month, MLS outfit Atlanta United ended the city’s whopping 23-year wait for a major sports championship (the Atlanta Braves won the World Series in 1995). Sadly, this campaign is already a write-off, and with the Bucks looking good for a play-off spot, expect Giannis Antetokounmpo and the boys to go big in A-Town.

Memphis Grizzlies @ Miami Heat, Saturday 12 January, 10pm, Sky Sports Arena/HD (CH 518/508)
