Managing my shortcode texts

To manage your charges, sign in to your account.

The Financial Conduct Authority under the Payment Services Directive 2 has placed a limit on both how much you can spend on a text service and how much you can use these services per month.

Once you’ve reached your limit, if you Pay Monthly, you must wait for your next billing month, and if you Pay As You Go, you must wait until the 1st of the next month for your limit to reset.

Text messages to short code numbers

The spending limits apply to text shortcodes and Payforit subscription services. Text shortcodes are used to make charity donations, enter competitions, and complete marketing promotions. Payforit enables you to buy online content and services including videos, games, and apps using your mobile phone.

What are the spending limits?

Each text charge to a short code number will be capped to £40.

We’ll also apply a total monthly limit for sending messages to the shortcode numbers of £240.

What does this mean for me?

You can send texts to the shortcode numbers if each individual text charge is less than £40. You’ll continue to be able to send texts to the shortcode numbers until you reach the total monthly charge limit of £240. If you’ve reached the monthly limit, you’ll be unable to send texts to the shortcode numbers until the monthly charge limit rests.

If you’re a Pay Monthly customer, the monthly charge limit will reset at your next refresh date.

If you’re a Pay As You Go customer, the monthly charge limit will reset on the 1st of the following month.

Does this apply to Virgin Mobile?

No, these caps only apply to texts sent from your Virgin Mobile phone.
