Taking donation phone calls for Red Nose Day

24th March 2017

Getting behind Red Nose Day

Alongside our national charity partnership with Scope, Virgin Media is committed to a number of additional charity appeals. Red Nose Day is one of them and today five of our Customer Contact centres are providing crucial support to this great cause by taking donations over the phone from the public.

Our Customer Contact centres in Bellshill, Birmingham, Sheffield, Swansea and Wythenshawe are dedicating 50 phone lines each throughout the evening to help the public donate to this important cause during the televised event on BBC 1. Nearly 500 of our people have volunteered their time and we wish them all the best. They are doing Virgin Media proud.

In addition, fundraising and awareness raising activities are happening across our sites today to give our people the chance to donate to this important cause. You can take a look at the action using #VMSust and @rednoseday.

A bit more about the event

Red Nose Day takes place every two years, alternating with Sport Relief, and encourages everyone to pop on a Red Nose and raise money for Comic Relief to help transform the lives of the world’s poorest communities – both abroad and in the UK.

Here are just some of the ways Red Nose Day cash has helped people since the 2015 event:

  • 860,000 children in Africa to be given life-saving vaccines
  • 38,000 in the UK to improve their mental health
  • 90,000 children under 5 in Africa to be treated with anti-malarial drugs
