Bridget Jones

Mothers are often referred to as superheroes but in the case of Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) it’s literally true. When the Invisible Woman isn’t busy saving the world, she’s a doting mother to her baby Franklin and even takes on a planet-consuming cosmic being to help keep him safe in this latest version of The Fantastic Four. You can’t get more dedicated than that!

Parenting a teenager is no walk in the park, as both Tess Coleman (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her daughter Anna (Lindsay Lohan) discovered in the hit 2003 original. And the duo got to experience the body-switch chaos all over again with a new generation of teens, as Anna’s daughter Harper (Julia Butters) and soon-to-be stepdaughter Lily (Sophie Hammons) trade bodies with their elders – and find out all about the importance of family, no matter its form.

Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

Donna Sheridan (Meryl Streep) stole our hearts as Sophie’s free-spirited and independent mother in smash-hit movie musical Mamma Mia! And then the sequel got us right in the feels in a different way, as a celebration of Donna’s life before she became one of our favourite on-screen mums.

Sometimes being a parent means standing up and fighting for your child, even when circumstances are at their hardest. Mildred Hayes (Frances McDormand) comes to know this battle all too well in Martin McDonagh’s Oscar-winning film, which follows Mildred’s fight for justice against a small-town police department after they failed to catch the culprit who murdered her daughter. A stirring watch.

There’s no love like a mother’s love, and Julia Roberts’s moving performance as a fierce and protective parent was acclaimed by the critics and the public alike. When 10-year-old boy Auggie (Jacob Tremblay), who was born with a rare facial deformity called mandibulofacial dysostosis, enrols in school for the first time, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery while teaching his peers that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.

Motherhood isn’t all about homemade cards and the school run. At its core it’s about sacrifice, which is the premise for this French-language drama that won the Best Screenplay prize at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Shot in a documentary style, the film follows the lives of five young mothers living in a shelter, where they’re taught how to care for their babies or prepare their for adoption in the most challenging of circumstances.
