The Widow, Monday 8 April, 9pm, ITV/HD (CH 103/113). Also available for 7 days in Catch Up > Channels > ITV Hub

It’s been more than two decades since Kate Beckinsale swapped the small screen for the silver screen, but now she’s back on the box, starring in brand new ITV drama The Widow. And it’s been worth the wait.

This gripping eight-part mystery sees the Hollywood A-lister play Georgia Wells, a woman whose world is torn apart after her husband of ten years is reported dead following a plane crash in the Congolese jungle.

Flash forward three years and Georgia has moved on from the tragedy, but a shock discovery sees her setting off for the city of Kinshasa to uncover the truth about her husband’s fate. Will she be satisfied with what she finds, or will her digging lead to trouble?

Co-starring Alex Kingston and Charles Dance, and produced by brothers Harry and Jack Williams (The Missing, Fleabag, Baptiste), The Widow is the kind of twisty, unpredictable drama you can’t help but be gripped by.

The last time we saw Beckinsale in a TV role was in 1998, when she starred in an adaptation of Alice Through The Looking Glass (which you obviously remember). The TV landscape was a lot different back then, but how much do you remember about that year on screen? From the new shows that had the nation captivated to the big soap storylines, major sporting moments and more, test your telly knowledge with our retro quiz.
