Laid bare

A rare colossal squid which was caught in Antarctic waters and preserved in ice has been defrosted and is being dissected by scientists at Te Papa, the Museum of New Zealand.

This is the largest intact Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni specimen ever seen.

Laid bare

The squid's length has not been revealed but it is thought to be 10m. The colossal squid may be able to grow to 15m.
