Sport to watch this week

Pick of the week

Cricket: Indian Premier League
From Saturday 28 March, 1.50pm, Sky Sports Cricket HD (CH 505)

It’s the league all the top cricketers want to play in – not just for the money, although that’s nice, but for the opportunity to play alongside elite talents in stadiums packed with thousands of passionate fans who create an incredible atmosphere at every venue. Yes, the Indian Premier League is back for its 19th edition, and you can watch the whole tournament live on Sky Sports, which has comprehensive coverage all the way to the final on 31 May.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their first ever title in 2025, led by captain Rajat Patidar who was no doubt helped by having the vastly experienced former India skipper Virat Kohli in his team. Kohli scored 657 runs – ably assisted by international stars including England’s Phil Salt – while Aussie seamer Josh Hazlewood led the bowling stats. In the final, a remarkable performance from left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya (12 dot balls and just 4.25 runs conceded for each of his four overs) carried RCB to victory over Punjab Kings.

All those 2025 heroes are back for 2026, and the Challengers will take to the field for the opening game against Sunrisers Hyderabad with big hopes of retaining their title. Sunrisers, whose sole IPL title came in 2016, have acquired Liam Livingstone (part of the RCB squad last year) with the aim of reaching the play-offs, which they’ve done only once since 2020. Tune in for power hitting, cunning bowling and vibrant crowds that make this one of the world’s biggest and best sporting spectacles.
