Here’s all you need to know about the best TV show and film releases on Netflix in May 2026…

Swapped

Stream it from Friday 1 May in Apps > Netflix

You should never judge a book by its cover and that’s the premise for this delightful animation. When two natural sworn enemies – sea otter Ollie (Michael B Jordan, Sinners) and Kākāpō-like bird Javan (Juno Temple, Fargo) – accidentally swap bodies, what ensues is the adventure of a lifetime as the unlikely duo grow to understand each other while helping the world around them. Aw! Ambika Mod (One Day), Tracy Morgan (30 Rock) and Lolly Adefope (Ghosts) also lend their vocal talents.

Legends

Stream season 1 from Thursday 7 May in Apps > Netflix

Neil Forsyth, the writer behind The Gold and Guilt, offers a thrilling take on this remarkable true story that will have you on the edge of your seat. It’s the 1990s and with drug smuggling in the UK at an all-time high, a small team of ordinary customs employees are sent undercover to bring the country’s most dangerous gangs to justice. Steeve Coogan (Philomena), Tom Burke (Strike), Charlotte Ritchie (You) and Thomas Coombes (Baby Reindeer) star.

Remarkably Bright Creatures

Stream it from Friday 8 May in Apps > Netflix

Inspired by Shelby Van Pelt’s bestselling novel, Remarkably Bright Creatures is a moving tale about how friendship can be found in the most unlikely of places. Told through the eyes of a giant Pacific octopus who lives at the local aquarium, the film follows widower Tova (Sally Field, Forrest Gump) and the aquarium’s new-in-town employee Cameron (Lewis Pullman, Top Gun: Maverick) as they embark on a mission to find Cameron’s father while uncovering a life-changing mystery along the way. Alfred Molina (Spider-Man: No Way Home) voices the cantankerous cephalopod.

The Roast Of Kevin Hart

Stream it from Monday 11 May in Apps > Netflix

Kevin Hart is getting a taste of his own medicine in this outrageous stand-up special – hosted by Shane Gillies at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum arena that puts the former roast master in the hot seat. Grab the popcorn and tune in from the comfort of your sofa as an evening of big laughs unfolds live (watch at 1am British Summer Time), with famous faces and comedians throwing uncensored jabs at the comedy juggernaut. We can’t wait.

Nemesis

Stream season 1 from Thursday 14 May in Apps > Netflix

If you’ve been missing Power on your screens then we have good news for you – the show’s creator Courtney A Kemp is back and she’s got another hard-hitting crime drama for you. Nemesis is a twisty tale of two men on different sides of the law, as relentless LAPD cop Isaiah Stiles (Matthew Law, Abbott Elementary) becomes obsessed with catching criminal mastermind Coltrane Wilder (Y’lan Noel, The First Purge) and embarks on a high-stakes cat-and-mouse chase where only one man can come out on top. Thrilling stuff.

The Boroughs

Stream season 1 from Thursday 21 May in Apps > Netflix

The Duffer Brothers prove that Hawkins isn’t the only supernatural town with strange goings-on, as they serve as executive producers on another spine-tingling sci-fi series. The Boroughs is no ordinary retirement home, as newcomer Sam (Alfred Molina, Spider-Man: No Way Home) is about to discover when he joins a group of other misfit senior citizens to stop an otherworldly threat that’s plaguing their community. Bill Pullman (The Sinner), Geena Davis (The Long Kiss Goodnight), Clarke Peters (The Wire), Alfre Woodard (Clemency) and Denis O’Hare (This Is Us) form a terrific ensemble cast.

Mating Season

Stream season 1 from Friday 22 May in Apps > Netflix

The twisted minds behind Big Mouth (stream seasons 1-8 now in Apps > Netflix) have swapped middle schoolers for members of the animal kingdom in this wild adult animation featuring a cast of frisky bears, raccoons, deer, foxes and more. The furry but relatable crowd navigate hook-up culture, creature dating sites and the universal need to find love and procreate. Big Mouth’s Nick Kroll (also the co-creator) takes the lead as Ray the raccoon, with June Diane Raphael (Grace And Frankie), Zach Woods (Silicon Valley) and Sabrina Jalees (Black Mirror) as the rest of the randy rabble.

Ladies First

Stream it from Friday 22 May in Apps > Netflix

In a patriarchal world, Damien (Sacha Baron Cohen, Borat) has it all. But the male chauvinist is in for a rude awakening when a freak accident transport him to a parallel world where society is dominated by women. Cue a hilarious (and thought-provoking) war with his fiery female counterpart (played by Rosamund Pike, Gone Girl) as the former womaniser fights for his place in this new world, all while learning a valuable lesson or two. Richard E Grant (Saltburn), Charles Dance (The Crown), Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve) and Emily Mortimer (Paddington In Peru) also feature.

The Four Seasons

Stream season 2 from Thursday 28 May in Apps > Netflix. Season 1 available now

The wait is nearly over for those of us who haven’t stopped thinking about that gobsmacking cliffhanger. The smash-hit series is back, and the second season promises more heart, humour and chaos than ever before, as the long-term friends navigate a new chapter following (spoiler!) the loss of Nick and the imminent arrival of his unborn child. Tina Fey, Will Forte, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Colman Domingo, Marco Calvani and Erika Henningsen all return.

Rafa

Stream it from Friday 29 May in Apps > Netflix

To the world he’s known as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. But there’s so much more to the man behind the sporting legend, as this revealing documentary about Rafael Nadal shows. Featuring testimonials from sporting figures including Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and John McEnroe, Rafa is an intimate portrait of Nadal’s extraordinary life and legacy as he faces his final year on the ATP Tour in 2024.
