Recently Manchester City v Liverpool has been a fixture with a huge impact on the destiny of the title. But we’re even more excited than usual about their upcoming clash because of how erratic both teams have been this season, with their defences looking especially vulnerable. Still, the goals have been flowing from their top-class forwards (although £125 million striker Alexander Isak hasn’t hit form just yet), so we’re predicting a high-scoring affair on 9 November.
But arguably the most impressive team of 2025/26 so far are Crystal Palace, who’ve gone on a club-record unbeaten run, beaten the champions and made a solid start to their first ever European campaign. As well as the City-Liverpool game, 9 November brings a fixture Palace’s fans always look out for: the visit of fierce rivals Brighton & Hove Albion. It’s a clash between two of the most well-coached and free-flowing teams in the Premier League, so we can expect an entertaining afternoon on Sky Sports.
And there’s lots more Premier League action coming your way on Sky Sports, which has more than 200 live games this season. Liverpool v Man Utd, Everton v Spurs and Sunderland v Arsenal are just some of this month’s highlights – here’s the full list.

Football: Scottish Premiership
Hearts began October at the top of the Premiership table thanks to an excellent start under new coach Derek McInnes. Following investment from Brighton owner Tony Bloom, the club made some shrewd summer signings such as Portuguese forward Cláudio Braga, acquired from Norwegian side Aalesunds, and Belgian midfielder Elton Kabangu from sister club Union Saint-Gilloise, both of whom have already made their mark.
McInnes will be mindful that Aberdeen made a similar start last season but couldn’t sustain it and finished fifth (and are now languishing at the bottom) but the Jambos’ squad, including experienced Scotland striker Lawrence Shankland, is looking strong. The real test will come against champions Celtic, a game that’s live on Sky Sports on 26 October and is not to be missed.

With coach Sonia Bompastor making tactical tweaks, Chelsea have looked slightly less relentless than they often do. And after four not-especially-authoritative wins, they dropped WSL points in the fifth round with a home draw against Man Utd. With a variety of fronts to fight on, the champions could be vulnerable.
Tottenham are the latest team tasked with stopping the Chelsea juggernaut and they’ll arrive at Kingsmeadow with confidence after four wins in five matches took them into the top three. There’s a break for League Cup and international action after the five games on 12 October; live WSL action returns to Sky Sports at the start of November.

Football: EFL Championship
Stoke City enjoyed a solid decade in the Premier League from 2008 to 2018 but since relegation they’ve been knocking around the middle to lower reaches of the Championship, never really threatening to go up or down. But supporters now have cause for hope. Four wins in the first five took them into the promotion positions and with the relegated teams in uncertain form, this league looks as open as it has for a while – so Stoke have a great opportunity to take advantage.
Under coach Mark Robins, appointed in January, they’ve become defensively sound and the signing of Wales winger Sorba Thomas has been an inspired one. They also have the splendidly named forward Million Manhoef, a player we want to see at the top level and soon. You can see the Potters take on Millwall, Portsmouth and Oxford this month on Sky Sports, alongside dozens more live Championship games featuring every single club in the division.

It’s fair to say not many would have predicted Lincoln v Stevenage to be a meeting between promotion contenders ahead of the season, but both clubs have got off to great starts. Lincoln have been picking up vital away wins, nabbing all the points at Burton, Peterborough and Northampton, while Stevenage’s new signing Jordan Houghton has added solidity and helped the team to one of League One’s best defensive records.
They face off at Sincil Bank on 18 October, one of Sky Sports’ regular Saturday live games from League One – and don’t miss the midweek games too, including Huddersfield v Bolton on 16 October and Stevenage’s trip to Reading on 6 November.

After 10 games there were just five points between the top seven of this unpredictable division. After their turbulent 2024/25 campaign, Walsall fans probably won’t be putting much stock in being top so early on; after all, they were first with six games left to go last term, and somehow still failed to be promoted. A trip to rock-bottom Cheltenham is a good opportunity to bag three more crucial points, though. Other high flyers include Salford City, with veterans Kadeem Harris and Luke Garbutt in good form, and you can see their home game against Oldham on 18 October.

Football: Bundesliga
Per Wikipedia, “Der Klassiker, also known as the ‘German Clásico’, is the name given to any football match between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. They are two of the most successful teams in German football, having won a combined total of 27 of the past 32 Bundesliga titles.” But as fans know, the phrase “combined total” is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. Dortmund won just five of those 27 titles, and last season they were well off the pace, finishing 25 points behind Bayern and only just sneaking into the Champions League places.
However, under Niko Kovač, Dortmund have made a great start to this season and, like their Bavarian rivals, were unbeaten after six games. If they can get a result at the Allianz Arena on 18 October, this season could be shaping up for a memorable title race. And no matter the form or the stakes, the fans always ensure Der Klassiker is a spine-tingling occasion. There’s live Bundesliga on Sky Sports on Saturdays throughout the season, and this month you can also see Bayern host 2024 champs Bayer Leverkusen.

All-Premier League clashes in this round of the EFL Cup include Liverpool against their recent nemeses Crystal Palace and holders Newcastle against Spurs, but it’s the non-Prem clubs that have the most intriguing ties. Grimsby have already had a stellar run that includes knocking out Manchester United and they’ll fancy their chances against an inconsistent Brentford, while Wycombe will hope to put one over on Fulham. And there’s an all-Welsh affair between Wrexham and Cardiff, who haven’t met in a competitive match since 2002; the two clubs passed each other this summer as Wrexham went up to the Championship and Cardiff dropped into League One, but Cardiff have been on form while Wrexham have toiled somewhat. It could be a tasty affair – expect a crackling atmosphere.

Football: EFL Trophy
There have been some wacky scorelines in the EFL Trophy this season, including Man City Under-21s’ 5-1 win at Oldham, Huddersfield and Plymouth both thrashing Premier League Under-21 teams 6-2 and Crewe putting seven past Chesterfield, while every player on the pitch took a penalty in the shoot-out between Tranmere and Nottingham Forest (Rovers won 9-8). The mix of League One and Two teams with Premier League academies makes the EFL Trophy genuinely unpredictable, and no-one’s stamped their authority on this season’s competition yet. With more than 30 fixtures in the coming month – all live on Sky Sports – this could be the period when the genuine contenders emerge.

Favourites India and Australia put markers down early in this World Cup. India opened the tournament with a 59-run win (on DLS) over their co-hosts Sri Lanka in Guwahati; Australia upped the ante on day two, smashing 326 to thrash New Zealand by 89 runs with Ashleigh Gardner helping herself to 115 off 83 balls. The meeting between these two on 12 October is a mouthwatering prospect.
As for England, well, they beat both those teams in warm-up matches ahead of the competition – for what it’s worth – and will be confident in their form after thrashing South Africa in their opening match. They fell at the final hurdle in 2022, losing out to Australia despite a heroic 148 not out from Nat Sciver-Brunt in the chase. She’s since been appointed captain, so can this all-time England great inspire her side to victory? Find out live on Sky Sports.

Cricket: Women’s Big Bash
The 11th season of Australia’s women’s T20 competition begins with a triple-header – two games at Brisbane’s Allan Border Park followed immediately by one from the WACA in Perth. Melbourne Renegades, the holders, have boosted their title defence by drafting stars Alice Capsey of England and Deandra Dottin of West Indies, and there’s plenty more international talent on show in the Big Bash, including England skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt (Hobart), India’s Jemimah Rodrigues (Brisbane) and New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr (Sydney Sixers). Much may depend on form coming out of the World Cup but, as ever, the quality of the home players is prodigious and should make for a top-class tournament.

After Max Verstappen’s race victories in Italy and Azerbaijan, and Oscar Piastri’s first-lap crash in the latter race, the destination of the world championship is looking a lot less cut and dried than it seemed a few weeks ago. There are half a dozen Grands Prix left and three of them include sprint races, which means there’s still potentially 174 points available.
Verstappen won four consecutive titles when up against, to be fair, some pretty weak rival cars. If he can come back after seemingly being left for dead by his McLaren opponents this season, he’ll join the pantheon of true greats. But Piastri and Lando Norris will, of course, have something to say about that… In the month ahead, the high-octane action comes from Austin, Mexico City and São Paulo, and you can follow it all on Sky Sports.

Rugby League: Super League

On 11 October, Hull Kingston Rovers have the opportunity to turn a memorable season into an incredible one. They’ve already captured the 2025 Challenge Cup and League Leaders’ Shield, their first trophies for 40 years, and now they’re just 80 minutes away from a fantastic treble. All that, plus the chance of revenge over Wigan for their Grand Final defeat last year? It’s all lining up perfectly. Wigan aren’t going to lie down, of course, but the narrative is almost as irresistible as the free-flowing Rovers side featuring stars like Mikey Lewis, Joe Burgess and Arthur Mourgue. Don’t miss the action, live on Sky Sports.

Darts
It’s a packed autumn schedule of darts on Sky Sports as the sport counts down to the World Championships in December, starting with the World Grand Prix. Its unusual double-in, double-out format makes it one of the most intriguing tournaments to watch: there’s nothing like seeing a top pro get frustrated because he can’t even start scoring in a leg, while his opponent arrows implacably towards zero. Belgium’s Mike De Decker was the surprise winner in 2024 – who will claim the prize this year?
November brings the Grand Slam, which ensures a top-drawer field in Wolverhampton by bringing together the 32 most successful players from tournaments over the past year. This includes the PDC World Youth Championship, Women’s World Matchplay and PDC Women’s Series, giving us a broad talent field and some intriguing match-ups in the group stages. This is the final year in this format, though – 2026 will have 48 participants to reflect the game’s growth in recent years. The defending champ is the man who’s responsible for much of that: Luke Littler.

American Football: NFL
)
Despite the punishment they put their bodies through, there’s a surprisingly long list of NFL players who have competed past the age of 40 and some of them are among the game’s true greats, including Tom Brady, Jerry Rice and Johnny Unitas. A recent inductee into that group is Aaron Rodgers, the 17-season Green Bay Packers QB and Super Bowl champion who’s not only part of the Pittsburgh roster aged 41, he’s also on the starting offense and leading the Steelers admirably.
They began the season with three wins in four, downing the Jets, Patriots and Vikings, with Rodgers achieving a superb 82% pass completion rate against Minnesota and throwing eight touchdown passes in total. He’s taken the Steelers to the top of the NFC North division and you can see the great man in action against the Bengals, the Chargers and his old team the Packers this month on Sky Sports, alongside tons more live NFL games every weekend.

Golf
After the emotional rollercoaster of the Ryder Cup and its fallout, we’re expecting rather more respectable fan behaviour in the coming month – although the golf itself will no doubt be just as classy. There’s plenty of action from Asia including the PGA Tour’s Baycurrent Classic in Yokohama and the LPGA Tour’s BMW Championship from Seowon, South Korea, with typo players competing for big prizes.
If you’re looking for something with a more GMT-friendly schedule, the Open de España comes from the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid; three-time winner Jon Rahm finished runner-up in 2024, so he’ll be keen to keep up his Ryder Cup form on home turf and reclaim the trophy. With top-level golf every weekend on Sky Sports, there’s always an absorbing tournament to get immersed in.

We won’t be seeing Britain’s newest tennis star, Jack Draper, on court again this year thanks to a persistent arm injury but there are plenty of opportunities to check out the top players as the season heads towards its winter break. Some of the highest-ranked women’s players are scheduled to take part in the WTA 500 tournament in Ningbo, China, including Jasmine Paolini, Amanda Anisimova and home favourite Zheng Qinwen. The men, meanwhile, are heading to Europe for events in Brussels, Stockholm, Basel and Vienna (where Draper won last year). Catch plenty of exciting action with Sky Sports’ extensive coverage of the ATP and WTP Tours.

Rugby Union: NZ National Provincial Championship
Canterbury dominated the early years of this championship in its current format, winning nine titles in 10 years between 2008 and 2017. They haven’t won it since, though, suffering defeat in the 2018 and 2022 finals – but this could be the year they reclaim the trophy. The red-and-black-clad team stormed through the league phase, seeing off (almost) all comers, and were particularly impressive in a nine-try, 53-14 win over Manawatu. It’s Counties Manukau who have the daunting task of trying to stop them in the quarter-final.
Their most likely challengers? Otago, who finished just a point behind them in the standings. The Dunedin-based team have never reached the final, but they inflicted Canterbury’s only defeat of this season. If these two teams reach the final, it could be an epic rematch.

Pool: Reyes Cup
This competition was inaugurated in 2024 as Asia v Europe but for this year’s second edition, the selection criteria have been widened so a Rest of the World squad will take on Team Asia in Manila (surely nothing to do with Asia’s comfortable victory in the first iteration). The top three Asian players in the rankings plus two wild card picks will take on five of the best from Europe, the Americas, Oceania and potentially beyond in a quickfire three-day tournament named after Filipino legend Efren “Bata” Reyes. Expect Ryder Cup levels of intensity.
