There’s a huge month of live action ahead on Sky Sports, including tennis’s US Open, crucial Formula One Grands Prix and the Rugby Championship in rugby union. But the headline is the return of both the Premier League and WSL, the former affording viewers the chance to see the summer’s expensive signings, the latter bringing (most of) the Euros-winning Lionesses team to your screens.

There’s plenty more football from the Scottish Premiership, EFL and EFL Cup as well, plus rugby league, golf, cricket and more. And the early autumn means the arrival of a new NFL season, so watch out for confirmed live games on Sky Sports from 5 September. Read on for your comprehensive guide to the best of the sporting action in the coming month.

Virgin TV 360 and Stream viewers can make the most of Sky Sports+ on their box with the red button or watch on the Sky Sports app. If you watch on a TiVo® or V6 box (powered by TiVo®), you can watch on the app or upgrade your package. Find out all you need to know here.

Football: Premier League

Watch Premier League football matches on Sky Sports this month.

If you’d told Arsenal at the start of last season that they were going to finish above Man City, they’d probably have been celebrating, after finishing runners-up to City twice. They didn’t reckon with Arne Slot’s Liverpool, who sailed past the Gunners while City were going through their midseason slump, and consigned them to second place again. That prompted a summer of acquisitions, with Viktor Gyökeres, Martín Zubimendi and Noni Madueke bought for big money, alongside the canny signings of Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

And we won’t have to wait long to see how Arsenal measure up against the champions, who of course have high-profile additions of their own: their first meeting of the new season comes on the final day of August at Anfield. We’re not suggesting that it’s a title decider or anything, of course. But either side could strike a serious psychological blow with a win at this stage. (Prediction: a thrilling 2-2.)

And there’s plenty more live Premier League action this month, of course, now that Sky Sports’ coverage includes at least 215 matches. There are six games on Sky Sports over the opening weekend, including Arsenal’s trip to Old Trafford and Everton at newly promoted Leeds, and three live games every Sunday throughout August. Don’t miss it.

Football: Scottish Premiership

With the international window at the start of September, there’s just one Premiership live match scheduled on Sky Sports in the coming month, but it’s a doozy. After Rangers failed to win either of their first two league matches for the first time in 36 years, new coach Russell Martin is under serious pressure. If his first Old Firm game doesn’t go Rangers’ way, could he be facing the sack even at this early stage? Celtic are already well ahead and the 31 August clash is a real six-pointer.

Of course, if Martin can secure a win at Ibrox, all will (possibly) be forgiven. It’s a fine line. Much may depend on who departs and arrives by then, with the transfer window closing the next day, but no matter what, Martin will have to get his team firing by the time they line up against their fierce rivals. Otherwise the fans might never forgive him.

Football: Women’s Super League

Sky Sports has expanded its coverage of the WSL for 2025/26 and now has 118 live games, so if you were inspired by England’s rollercoaster ride to reclaiming the Euro trophy in Switzerland this summer, there’s plenty more top-notch women’s football action to enjoy! It all starts on 5 September and, with the men on international duty, you can watch five of the six matches from the WSL’s opening weekend live across the Sky channels. Champions Chelsea kick off on the Friday night against Manchester City – a fixture that’s had a decisive impact on title races in the past – in a game that’s likely to feature several Lionesses including Hannah Hampton and Lauren Hemp. Maybe Lucy Bronze too, depending on how many of her legs are functioning. Or maybe not.

Then there are four more live games on the Sunday: the Merseyside derby at Anfield is probably the stand-out, with both clubs entering a new era. Liverpool have appointed former City boss Gareth Taylor as their new coach, while Everton have a new permanent home at Goodison Park and some eye-catching new signings after receiving significant investment. With ticket sales expected to be up after the Euros glory, get ready for another exciting WSL season.

Football: EFL Championship

Watch EFL Championship football matches on Sky Sports this month.

Ipswich showed that it was possible to go from League One to the Premier League in two seasons and that’s the aim for Birmingham this season, with their wealthy backers that include NFL legend Tom Brady – and they’ll believe that, unlike Ipswich, they can stay in the Prem once they’re there. City started their campaign with an impressive performance against the Suffolk side but somehow came away with just a point, so they’ll have to be more clinical and efficient if they’re going to achieve their ambitions.

You can see them live in another Friday night game against Leicester, another team demoted from the Premier League, so there are plenty of tough early tests for the Blues. Other tasty-looking ties this month are promoted Wrexham at home to West Brom and a tricky trip to Middlesbrough for Sheffield United, who started with a surprise home defeat against Bristol City, the team they thumped in last season’s play-offs. As ever, there are unpredictable matches everywhere you look in the Championship, and Sky Sports is the place to follow it.

Football: EFL League One

Relegated Cardiff went down from the Championship with such a whimper that it was hard to see them among the contenders for promotion this year. But they were impressive on the opening day as they came from behind to win 2-1 against Peterborough. In the Colwill brothers, Rubin and Joel, they’ve got two players who are Bluebirds through and through and fans will be reassured every time the pair line up alongside each other in midfield.

This month you can see Cardiff’s trip to promoted AFC Wimbledon, who got their season going with a 2-0 victory over 10-man Lincoln. With plenty of clubs looking strong enough to challenge in League One this term, it’s going to be a fascinating season and you can follow it on Sky Sports with live matches every week.

Football: EFL League Two

Walsall’s two games against Grimsby in 2024/25 illustrated the story of their season. They were rampant at Blundell Park in October, winning 4-1 with an awesome display of counterattacking football: it was the second game in a 16-match unbeaten run that took them to the top of League Two. When they hosted the Mariners in March, they were in the midst of a 13-game winless streak that meant they finished just outside the promotion places, losing 3-1 in a game that was all over by half-time. Not surprisingly, they didn’t make it through the play-offs.

All of which means we’ve no idea what to expect from their clash with Grimsby on Sky Sports Football this month – part of the extensive League Two coverage on Sky Sports.

Football: EFL Cup

We’ve already seen some incredible drama in this season’s EFL Cup when Barnet, trailing 2-0 at home in the 96th minute of their preliminary round to Newport, grabbed two goals for which the term “late” seems inadequate to take the tie to a penalty shoot-out. Which they promptly lost, Cameron Evans scoring the decisive spot-kick for County. More of that kind of thing, please. The first round will be completed on 13 August with the second following two weeks later.

Tennis

Watch the US Open on Sky Sports this month.

The final Grand Slam event of the year is here – and the 2025 US Open comes with a twist. The mixed doubles will be played ahead of the main draw in a two-day period using different rules that allow shorter matches. Fan reaction hasn’t been entirely favourable, but organisers insist it’s the best way to highlight this often overlooked section of the event. And with a $1 million prize on offer, it’s attracted many of the top stars: Carlos Alcaraz is teaming up with GB’s Emma Raducanu (a hot ticket if ever there was one) while other pairs include Jannik Sinner and Emma Navarro, Iga Świątek and Casper Ruud, and Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz.

Many of those should feature in the later stages of the singles tournament too, although we don’t think 2021 champ Raducanu, despite some strong recent results, is ready to repeat her finest moment. Alcaraz and Sinner have won every men’s Grand Slam singles since the start of last year between them, while six-time major winner Świątek will look to build on the momentum of her Wimbledon triumph. Who will take the big trophies at the Billie Jean King Center? Find out when the tournament proper begins on 24 August.

Cricket: Men’s Internationals

Watch international cricket on Sky Sports this month.

England didn’t lose a match in their men’s ODI and T20 series against West Indies earlier this summer, but South Africa should provide a sterner test. The last time they met was in the final match of England’s dismal ICC Champions Trophy campaign in March, a convincing win for the Proteas. Since then England have appointed a new captain, Harry Brook, and are looking to establish a new era of success. Brook, who also averaged 65 in the West Indies ODI series, will aim to lead by example and he’ll have a strong supporting cast that might even include 2019 World Cup hero Jofra Archer. It all starts at Headingley on 2 September, with the final T20 at Trent Bridge 12 days later.

Cricket: The Hundred

Oval Invincibles is a pretty cool name – if you’re winning. Unfortunately for the Oval women’s team, they lost their opening two matches (the second a heartbreaking two-run defeat to Manchester Originals) and were playing catch-up almost from the get-go. The men’s team, who are the holders, are doing a better job of living up to their name with Will Jacks playing a starring role: not only did he hit 61 off 26 in a victory against the Originals, his acrobatic leap to stop a six went viral. They’re the team to beat once again, especially with Jacks in this form.

This season has already provided a lot of hugely entertaining cricket. Defending champs London Spirit are looking good in the women’s competition, as are Northern Superchargers and Southern Brave, while the Brave and Trent Rockets men’s teams also had good starts but there are no doubt twists to come ahead of the finals at the end of August.

Cricket: Men’s T20 Blast

Once The Hundred is out of the way, the T20 Blast resumes with the knockout stages, and Surrey’s men will be looking to emulate their female counterparts by claiming the 2025 trophy. Having topped the South Group, they’ll be heavy favourites ahead of their home quarter-final against Northants: it’s a curious anomaly that while Surrey have been the most successful county over past 20 years, they haven’t won the Blast since its inaugural competition in 2003, so they’ll be keen to put that right. Lancashire finished first in the North Group, meanwhile, and face Kent at Old Trafford. Finals day is on 13 September – weather permitting as always – at Edgbaston.

Motorsport: Formula One

Watch Formula One racing on Sky Sports this month.

It did look as if McLaren’s Oscar Piastri was going to roar away with the drivers’ championship at one point, but three wins in four races for Lando Norris meant that the team-mates went into the summer break separated by just nine points. It could hardly be any closer, and the British driver will be buoyed by that run of success: with no team orders, we’re in for a treat as two top-class racers in supreme cars battle for the title over the final stages of the season.

The first race back is in Zandvoort, and then we’re heading for the classic venue of Monza where Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton will try to give the home fans something to cheer about. Follow all the action on Sky Sports.

Motorsport: IndyCar

It’s all over bar the proverbial shouting in IndyCar 2025, as Álex Palou wrapped up the drivers’ title at the Grand Prix of Portland ahead of the final two races, and Palou’s Chip Ganassi Racing is close to securing the team championship too. But fortunately the remaining events are among the highlights of the calendar, with the highly banked oval at the Wisconsin State Fair Park making the Milwaukee Mile unpredictable, while the Nashville Speedway is known for its high-intensity, wheel-to-wheel action. Tune in for some high-octane excitement.

Rugby League: Super League

What lies in store for the Super League beyond this season is uncertain, with the expansion to 14 teams seemingly inevitable but the make-up of that competition still in question, but what’s not in doubt is that the 2025 campaign has seen some brilliant rugby. Much of it has come from Hull KR, who’ve handed out some thrashings over hapless victims like Castleford and Salford but also managed some smart and tactically astute victories against rivals.

Despite a mini-wobble in July, Rovers have secured a top six place and are now aiming to grab the League Leader’s Shield – which would be their first. There’s a tough test at Wigan in their immediate future. And as if you need reminding, every single Super League game is live for those with Sky Sports+ .

Rugby League: Women’s Super League

Watch Women’s Super League matches on Sky Sports this month.

St Helens and Wigan have been the best sides in the Women’s Super League this season and qualified for the semi-finals with ease. The Warriors have been in particularly good form going forward, racking up more than 500 points with Eva Hunter, Grace Banks, Tiana Power and Molly Jones all among the league’s leading try scorers, and they’ve reached three figures more than once. St Helens’ biggest win? A comparatively paltry 86-0 over Warrington. And considering these two teams played out a thrilling 22-22 draw at Robin Park Arena in June, this rematch at the Totally Wicked Stadium is seriously mouthwatering. In an ever-improving competition, this could be the biggest match to date. Don’t miss it.

Rugby League: NRL Men

Canberra Raiders and Melbourne Storm were the first two teams to qualify for this season’s finals – but it’s Penrith Panthers who’ve garnered all the headlines (as rival fans would probably say they always do). After floundering in the bottom half for the first 15 rounds, struggling desperately for points, they kick-started their campaign with a hard-fought 18-10 victory over the Eels and then went on a run that propelled them relentlessly up the ladder. They’re now almost certain to make the finals, so could they cap this incredible comeback with a fifth consecutive premiership? Their credentials will be severely tested against the Storm and the Raiders, both live on Sky Sports this month along with more NRL action.

Rugby League: NRL Women

Roosters famously love to get going early, and that’s exactly what’s happened in the women’s NRL this season as Sydney forged ahead with an unmatched record of five wins from the first five matches. Led by centre Isabel Kelly and second-row Olivia Kernick, they’ve chalked up some stonking scores including a 42-22 win over the Bulldogs and a 34-4 victory against the Tigers. Can anyone stop them? Sky Sports continues its extensive coverage of this top-level women’s competition throughout the month.

Rugby Union: Rugby Championship

Watch Rugby Champsionship matches on Sky Sports this month.

The vast distances between the southern hemisphere’s top international teams mean that the schedules and kick-off times can be somewhat wacky, but it’s always worth tuning in to Sky Sports for this elite competition. South Africa, the defending champions after a closely fought 2024 tournament, begin with two home matches against Australia, who will presumably be smarting from their loss to the Lions and out to score some success. The All Blacks, who travel to Argentina for their own double header, are the odds-on favourites – but anything can happen in the Rugby Championship, as we found out last year when the Wallabies slumped to their worst ever finish with just five points.

Rugby Union: NZ National Provincial Championship

Hawke’s Bay got off to the best start in this year’s NPC with an eight-try victory over Counties Manuaku that ended 54-14. The Napier-based team fell at the quarter-final stage last season and will be aiming to go further this time around. This month they face 2024 semi-finalists Canterbury, live on Sky Sports. Before that, you can see Southland attempt to kick their campaign into gear against Manawatu, whose place-kicker Brett Cameron is in superb form. Don’t miss Sky Sports’ coverage of this high-quality competition.

Rugby Union: Currie Cup

We’re not sure how many fans of South African rugby team the Cheetahs there are in the UK, but they’ll all be in ecstasy this month as the Bloemfontein team are featured three times in a fortnight, playing in the domestic competition the Currie Cup. After losing their first game against the Cavaliers, they bounced back with wins over the Pumas and Sharks to establish themselves near the top of the table. With three consecutive home games coming up, that looks set to continue.

Golf

Watch golf on Sky Sports this month.

The three tournaments that make up the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup take place this month, culminating in the Tour Championship at Atlanta’s East Lake club. It’s no surprise that the two leading qualifiers are Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy: both have had hugely successful years, but the Northern Irishman is certainly the more mercurial of the two. His form has been erratic since capturing the Masters and he opted out of the first FedEx Cup play-off event, the St Jude Championship, with a view to regaining focus.

The far steadier Scheffler, fresh from his dominant Open win at Royal Portrush last month, prefers to do his preparation on the course. There’s been a lot of talk recently about the world number one’s pronouncements that he doesn’t derive a lot of satisfaction from winning trophies – but you wouldn’t know that from his recent stellar tournament record. We would not be at all surprised to see him capture this one too but the other top qualifiers, including McIlroy, Justin Thomas and England’s Justin Rose, who won the St Jude title, will be hell-bent on stopping him.

There’s lots more golfing action on Sky Sports this month too, including the British Masters and Irish Open on the European Tour, plus the newly renamed PIF Global Series, the innovative women’s event in which 26 four-player teams battle it out over three days. This month it stops off in Houston, Texas.
