In 2001 Russell was hosting an MTV show called Select where kids called in to request music videos. Addicted to drugs at the time, Brand turned up to work dressed as Osama bin Laden. Odd, but not so bad until you hear he did it the day after the attacks on the World Trade Centre. Oh Rusty, what are we going to do with you?
NME Awards 2006
Clearly Sir Bob Geldof isn't a Brand fan. When accepting a gong at the NME's hosted by Brand he called him a very naughty word indeed. Quick witted Brand responded 'It's no wonder Bob Geldof knows so much about famine - he's been dining out on "I Don't Like Mondays" for 30 years.' Game, set, and match.
Our favourite wild-haired comic got into a spot of bother when he made a rude phone call to Andrew Sachs, of Fawlty Towers fame. While the press went to town on Mr Brand, Sachs actually forgave him quite quickly, and the pair were astounded by the amount of outrage over the incident. Blimey!
At the 2008 VMAs bad boy Brand likened Britney Spears to the Messiah, made fun of the Jonas Brothers' promise rings and insulted then-President Bush. Many viewers were outraged, but the VMA producers must have known what they were getting into when they hired him!
A long-time friend of homeless people the world over, our kind-hearted comedian was sacked from his Xfm radio show for bringing homeless people in to the studio. Well, we suppose there are worse reasons to be fired than for being too nice!
Rod Stewart Spat
Russell and Rod Stewart had a very public bust up at the GQ Men of the Year awards in 2006. Reacting to a comment Stewart had made earlier about Brand's womanising, Russell claimed to have 'had a go' on Rod's daughter Kimberley. As you might expect, Rod was not a pleased father... Russell later apologised. He tends to do a lot of that.
The bouffant-haired comic has been arrested a staggering 11 times. Mainly these arrests were for public indecency, including stripping to his birthday suit at the 2003 May Day rally in central London. He was also beaten up then arrested after doing a show in Edinburgh. The poor fella.
Urinating at Radio 2
As Russell found out, when you gotta go, you gotta go. Caught short during his popular Radio 2 show, Russell decided to wee in a paper cup instead of visiting the loo. Hardly in the same league as some of his previous antics, but naughty enough. A Radio 2 spokesman said Russell had been shown where the toilet was...
While on tour in Northampton, Russell discovered the local area had been scandalised by an attacker and decided to use the drama in his act. With an audience member's mobile he called the police claiming to have seen the attacker. Brand later apologised for the prank call.
