Thought having a baby was easy? Well you probably didn’t, to be fair, but this programme absolutely confirmed just how not-easy it is, following couples as they plunged into the great big adventure of it all.
In a nutshell
Babies are great, aren’t they? Apart from all the fear and panic and uncertainty and did we say fear and panic? Apart from all of that they’re great. That’s what the couples in this series have to probably keep telling themselves, because there’s a whole lot of stuff going on that’s enough to make anyone deeply regret the miracle of childbirth. Take the time-honoured ritual of rushing to the hospital with your lady in labour. Sounds kind of fun, like something from a movie, right?
But in this opening episode, Doug and Marsadie had to do it for real. A very genuine dash for the hospital as Mars went into early labour – not quite the scenario either could have imagined when they first bridged an age-gap (he’s 41, she’s 28) via online dating. But that’s nothing compared to Ashley and Tyson, a couple who’ve had to endure long and frustrating infertility treatments… and are now making up for lost time with quadruplets. And not just any old quadruplets, but two pairs of identical twins. Wowzer.
What's the verdict?
You know the drill with shows like this – lots of wide-eyed interviews, quick-cut sequences and jangling music to propel us from one situation to the next. It all seemed suitably exciting and heart-racing, and if that’s how we felt, spare a thought for the couple awaiting four new arrivals…
