Celebrating the hugely anticipated 4th season of Orange is the New Black, Virgin Media hit up the Berlin premiere on June 7th. Yes, the carpet was orange. Yes, the stars were dazzling. And oh yes, we’re going to tell you all about it.
Meeting everyone’s favourite inmates
With a bright orange carpet unfurled, hundreds of fans crowded to catch a glimpse of their favourite Orange is the New Black star. Uzo Aduba (Crazy Eyes), Kate Mulgrew (Red), Selenis Leyva (Gloria), Dascha Polanco (Daya), Yael Stone (Morello) and Lea DeLaria (Big Boo) all ditched their trademark prison scrubs to get frocked up in their best attire. Selenis twirled in an elegant black gown, Lea rocked a very slick suit, but for us, Uzo stole the show when she blew us a little kiss from the carpet. (Okay, we’re softies!)
On the hunt for season 4 hints
We spoke to some of the stars about Season 4. When asked to describe it in a word, Lea DeLaria picked “excruciating.” Why? “I have to do some real acting,” she joked. Selenis Leyva praised the show’s inclusive and diverse casting, saying the new season goes even further to depict untold stories. And Yael Stone was keen to appreciate ongoing support from the show’s huge fanbase.
Taking a peek at the first episode
NB: I checked and everything mentioned here is covered in mainstream press at this point, so they are not actually spoilers in any way. Just trying to make it sound cute.
No spoilers, we promise! Okay, maybe some itty bitty ones… Season 4 really kicks off with a bang, bringing in a whole host of new characters. Literally a whole busload of them, shipped in after the closure of another prison. Plus a sassy new inmate (loosely based on Martha Stewart) makes her first appearance. And there’s a bigger, burlier, beard-ier new prison guard called Piscatella.
But don’t worry, all your old faves are there too. Piper’s dirty knickers business has gone to her head and she’s causing more trouble than ever. “I’m gangsta,” she says. “Like, with an a at the end.” (Oh Piper.) Meanwhile, the ever-confident Alex now seems to be on the edge of a nervous breakdown. The show looks to be getting a little bit darker and we could immediately sense some fantastic storylines bubbling.
Don’t forget – Orange Is The New Black season 4 is now on Netflix. Don’t miss it!
