Woody Harrelson may have a role as a mentor in the forthcoming Han Solo Star Wars spin-off, reports suggest...
Where would Star Wars be without mentors? Luke Skywalker had Obi Wan Kenobi. Obi Wan Kenobi had Qui-Gon Jinn. Anakin Skywalker had Obi Wan Kenobi. That's a lot of Obi Wan Kenobi.
At any rate, Han Solo could be getting a mentor of his own in Disney-Lucasfilm's forthcoming Star Wars Story movie - and according to Variety, that role might be going to Woody Harrelson.
The currently untitled spin-off, due out next year, will star Alden Ehrenreich as the young Solo, and he'll be joined by Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian and Emilia Clarke in a currently undisclosed role. According to Star Wars lore, Han Solo was taught his nifty flying skills by a character named Alexsandr Badure, though whether Lucasfilm will stick to that version of history remains to be seen.
Variety's sources say that Harrelson's still in early talks for the role, and we're quietly hoping the negotiations go well - whether he's playing a terrifying renegade cop in Rampart or a more likeable character in something like The Hunger Games franchise, he's a reliably fantastic actor.
The Han Solo movie is being directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, with its release date officially marked for the 25th May 2018 - though according to recent rumours, its launch may be moving back to the 13th December. We'll bring you more on the spin-off as we hear it.
