Derek Kolstad is brought back to pen the new John Wick movie, starring Keanu Reeves. And it's set to film this year...

Just cementing one or two things to do with John Wick 3. We reported last month - and the original story is below - that the movie may well be going before the cameras before the year is out. That's very much the case, too, as The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the movie is now being fast-tracked, with an autumn start of filming planned.

It's also broken the news that Derek Kolstad has been set to pen the screenplay for the new movie. He also penned the script for the first two films as well.

Off the back of the success of John Wick: Chapter 2, plans are moving quickly to get the third film in the series before the cameras. Chad Stahelski, who directed the second movie (after co-directing the first), has been telling Collider that script work is well underway.

“We’re in the middle of it writing it right now”, he said. “It’s more of a how fast can we get our shit together. But I would assume that if not by the end of this year, the beginning of next year”. By that, we’re taking it to mean that the movie could even be filming before 2017 is out, and that’d likely suggest an early 2019 release date for John Wick 3.

As for whether Stahelski is going to direct John Wick 3, that’s not clear yet. “Currently I’m acting as prep director”, he said. “Hopefully, everything will work out time wise. Of course I would love to… If you really watch the first and second one, there’s only one place it can go — so I’ll let you sort that out”.
