X-Men: Dark Phoenix director and cast confirmedby Simon Brew

X-Men: Dark Phoenix will see Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Nicholas Hoult all return...

The follow-up to X-Men: Apocalypse is now officially locked down and pretty much ready to shoot. It’s going to be called – as had been previously announced – X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and long time guardian and screenwriter for the X-Men movies, Simon Kinberg, will indeed be making his directorial debut on the film.

Furthermore, lots of people whose contract had expired have signed up for more. Thus, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult will be playing Mystique, Professor X, Magneto and Beast respectively. And from Apocalypse, Alexandra Shipp is back as Storm, Sophie Turner is Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan is Cyclops and Kodi Smit-McPhee is playing Nightcrawler.

In further news, Jessica Chastain is top of the wishlist to play the villain in the new movie. The role is set to be Shi’ar Empress Lilandra Neamani, and we’d expect her deal to be locked down really quite quickly if it’s going to happen. That’s because X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to start filming in Montreal before the end of the month, with a November 2018 release date earmarked for the movie.

More, of course, as we hear it…

X-Men: Apocalypse is available now on Sky Cinema
