Why should I be excited about bikes going around a track?

Because MotoGP™ is one of the most drama-filled, high-octane sports you’re likely to find anywhere on telly. With these bikes capable of reaching an eye-watering 200mph, you’re always in for a wild ride. Plus, it’s hosted at Silverstone…

What’s so special about Silverstone?

They don’t call it the home of British motor racing for nothing. With its tricky bends and hair-raising straights, this 3.6-mile track is a proper test of a driver’s skill – not to mention nerve. Legends have been made and reputations have been trashed at the iconic venue, which is hosting this race for the 18th time.

Who are the stars going for glory?

Marc Márquez is the man to catch. The defending champion is currently top of the standings, but his lead is a slender one indeed. Breathing down his neck are Maverick Viñales (who won here in 2016), the legendary Valentino Rossi and Andrea Dovizioso. Want to cheer on some home-grown talent? Then keep an eye on Coventry’s finest, Cal Crutchlow. But be warned – a Brit has never won this race.

So this is a pivotal stage in the season, then?

You bet it is. With only six races left after this weekend, every point earned is extremely valuable for the riders eyeing the title. Win at Silverstone and you’ve set yourself up nicely for the final straight of the campaign. Struggle to make your mark and you’ve not got much time to claw things back.

From Friday’s practice sessions to Saturday’s qualifying and Sunday’s big race, you can follow all the drama at the Octo British Grand Prix, live and exclusive on BT Sport.
