"Please love me!"
There's no doubt that the PlayStation has ruled the gaming roost for some time now. But with the PS3 launch upon us, have they done enough to convince gamers to splash out £425?
What's cool?
- Blu-ray disc technology will soon blow our dear old DVDs and CDs to kingdom come, and while you can't buy a Blu-ray player in the UK for less than £1000, the PS3 is one at more than half the price!
- With the monstrous 'Cell' processor (said to be 10 times faster than a standard PC chip) and in-built 60GB hard drive, the PS3 has the power to run your games, store your photos and videos, browse the internet, chat online and cook your dinner (almost). This would turn an Xbox 360 into a quivering pool of jelly.
- With Bluetooth and four USB ports, you can run a variety of devices through your PS3, including routing movies wirelessly from your PS3 to a PSP.
- Sony are renowned for their prolific production of game titles and once they get their head round the Blu-ray capabilities, the potential for mind-blowing game play is definitely dribble-inducing.
What's not cool?
- The ability to play PS1 and PS2 games has been removed for European machines. Will this be rectified? We don't know yet.
- The games available for launch have received some criticism. However, the Xbox 360 games are only just reaching their full potential after 18 months. Things, as they say, can only get better.
