Tiramisu

A delicious Italian dessert.

Ingredients
  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 ounces mascarpone cheese
  • 18 ounces heavy cream, lightly whipped
  • 1 teaspoon Gran Gala (optional)
  • 1 14-ounce package Savoiardi cookies
  • 1 cup espresso coffee cocoa for dusting
Method
  1. Combine the egg yolks and sugar in a bowl.
  2. Whisk until thick and pale yellow. Set aside and cool.
  3. Then, add the vanilla and the mascarpone and continue to whisk until creamy.
  4. In a separate bowl, whip the egg whites to soft peaks.
  5. Fold egg whites into the mascarpone filling mixture, and gently mix.
  6. Then add the whipped cream and Gran Gala, and mix with a rubber spatula until fully incorporated.
  7. Dip the cookies in the coffee on both sides and drain off any excess.
  8. Make a layer of cookies on the bottom of a serving dish, and top with the mascarpone cream.
  9. Continue layering until all is used. Dust the top with cocoa, and refrigerate for about 1 hour prior to serving.
