The menopause
Does the idea of your parents or grandparents having sex make you cringe? Does the grey brigade get up to it at all? It’s wrongly believed that once sexual allure fades, so does the rampant urge. But recent research proves that this is far from the case; today’s pensioners came of age in the swinging sixties and pioneered the sexual revolution.
However, as the aging process progresses, there are several obstacles that hinder a potentially fantastic sex life. Here are the problems and their solutions.
For women, the average age the menopause kicks in is 51. Hormonal changes to the body make menstruation stop completely.
The level of Oestrogen has fallen to such an extent that egg production has ceased altogether and the women’s reproductive system closes down. Unfortunately, this ‘change of life’ is sometimes accompanied by mood swings, irritation, forgetfulness, night sweats and hot flushes.
