I've been married for 15 years and have three wonderful children. Throughout my marriage my husband has been emotionally and verbally abusive to all of us and never considered his family as a priority. Neither my family nor friends care for him and I realised a few years ago that I don't much care for him either. He won't allow me to leave or take a breather from the marriage.
A few months ago, I reconnected with an old flame and had a one night stand. While it wasn't perfection, the general rapport and emotional connection I had was very strong. Nothing will ever come of the two of us, but I can't get past the "what if..." stage. Although my husband has recently made a complete turnaround in his behavior, I am not in love with him and can't decide if an "adequate" marriage is good enough. What do you think?
