With the cost of gold soaring by 70 per cent, we're cashing in by flogging jewellery, selling off family heirlooms and trading in other trinkets. Here’s our guide to getting the best price for your gold and where to sell.
What’s it worth: A 24-carat item is pure gold and will bag you around £18.50 per gram. If you’re selling to a dealer remember there’ll be a 10-20 per cent handling fee deducted.
Where’s the best place to sell: Jewellers will appraise an item for free, and are likely to give you a higher price than pawn shops. They may also offer the option of swapping the item for something from the shop, instead of cold hard cash.
Top tip: An attractive item of jewellery may have a greater resale value than its weight in ounces. Unless an item seems unfashionable or ugly it’s worth having the resale value appraised.
