When: 'The not-too-distant future'. Definitely after the Olympics.
What happened? Basically, someone in In Time with too much power took the phrase 'time is money' a little too seriously. Huge advances in science mean that the ageing process has been halted – humans now stop growing older at 25 years old. However, from that day onwards, your life is on the clock and ticking towards your death every day – mortality is delayed by topping up your body clock with time, which you earn by busting your ass at the coal face.
Is it fun? It is if you're rich – the more privileged members of society can feasibly live forever. Bad news if you're working-class, though; you can expect to avoid death by slogging your guts out at a job you hate, just to survive until the end of the day. Sort of like you do now.
Likeliness of it actually happening: We're not sure David Cameron could slip this law through parliament, there might be a few objections. Besides, who would want to live in a world without MILFs?
