With the huge success of 2000's Gladiator, there would always be interest in a sequel, but how do you make another film after the main character died? Rather than take the easier prequel route, musician Nick Cave wrote a genre-defying sequel that saw Maximus fight Roman gods in the afterlife, get reincarnated and effectively live forever, even going on to fight in World War II. He may as well have written Gladiator 2: Maximus In Space.
