Unsurprisingly, the highest-grossing film of all time is James Cameron’s Avatar.
Taking more than 15 years from concept to release, the 2009 blue-tinged sci-fi mindblower became the first movie to break the $2 billion barrier at the box office, beating Cameron's own Titanic - with its piddling $1.8 billion takings - into second place. In a lowly third place is Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King, which trousered $1.2 billion. Peanuts.
