World War II drama starring Yul Brynner and Orson Welles. In 1943, Hitler orders the final destruction of the Yugoslav Partisan units. Along with thousands of refugees, many of them sick or wounded, the Partisans begin the journey northward to the one remaining bridge over the treacherous Neretva gorge in the Bosnian Mountains in order to get to safety. Along the way they face German tanks, Italian infantry, Chetnik Cavalry, bomber aircraft, disease and natural elements.
