10 things you didn't know about... Star Wars

May the force be with you.

It is amazing to think that 'A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away' was thirty years ago. To celebrate this milestone and the six movies in the epic saga we have got some top Star Wars trivia for all you Jedis out there.

1. An early title George Lucas considered for Star Wars: A New Hope was The Adventures of Luke Starkiller As Taken From The 'Journal Of The Whills': Saga I - Star Wars.

2. Other actors who auditioned for the role of Han Solo include Christopher Walken, Nick Nolte and William Katt.

3. The actor who played Greedo, the green fishy looking bounty hunter killed by Han Solo in Solo’s first scene was played by Paul Blake from ITV soap Crossroads.

4. After discovering that his character Ben Kenobi was to be killed off in the first of the original Star Wars trilogy Alec Guiness allegedly kicked up a fuss and ensured that the Jedi masters ghostly inclusion in both The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi.

5. The opening scene of The Empire Strikes Back in which Luke Skywalker is attacked by a big white yeti thing (a Hoth Wampa for all you Star Wars purists) was added due to a facial scar Mark Hamill picked up in a car crash prior to filming.

6. During the filming of the fight scenes both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen had to be asked to stop making those ‘ssseeeoooo-kish-kish-kish’ lightsaber noises.

7. The basic plot of The Phantom Menace is based on George Lucas’ first draft for Star Wars that he wrote in 1975.

8. In The Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon Jinn's communicator is a redecorated Sensor Excel Razor for Women – hence the shoddy beard.

9. A few of the characters species; Darth Maul - Iridonian Zabrak, Jar Jar Binks – Gungan, Greedo – Rodian, Nien Nunb – Sullustan, Chewbacca – Wookie, Hammerhead – Ithorian, Jabba The Hutt – erm… a Hutt.

10. The Attack Of The Clones was filmed on the same stages as another Ewan McGregor movie, Moulin Rouge.
