The Shining (1980)
No list of chilling movie moments would be complete without a scene from Stanley Kubrick's superb version of the Stephen King horror. Young Danny has been exploring the seemingly endless corridors of the Overlook Hotel - where his novelist father (Jack Nicholson) and mother are employed as winter caretakers - on his trike earlier in the movie. When we see him round a corner on the trike, we think it's business as usual. The sudden appearance of two menacing twins shows just how wrong we are.
