Eve
Born and raised in Philadelphia where she first sang in local choirs, Eve Jeffers moved to New York where she was working as a stripper in a Bronx club when she met the rapper Mase. It was Mase who encouraged her to become a rapper and was featured on The Roots' 1999 album Things Fall Apart, when she was listed as Eve Of Destruction. She was signed by Dr Dre and teamed up with DMX and Ruff Ryders, releasing her first album Let There Be Eve...Ruff Ryders' First Lady in 1999. It was an instant success, becoming the first album by a female rapper to enter the US charts at Number 1. The follow-up, Scorpion in 2001 made her an international star with two major hit singles Who's That Girl and Let Me Blow Ya Mind, with Gwen Stefani. Enhancing her rapping with a strong R&B singing voice, Eve had another major success collaborating with Alicia Keys on Gangsta Lovin' and guested regularly with other artists, including Kelly Rowland, Maroon 5, Sean Paul, Alicia Keys and Ludacris. She also diversified into acting, appearing in sitcoms and the films Flashbacks Of A Fool and Whip It whilst in 2010 she worked on a new album Lip Lock.
