Savage Garden
Savage Garden were an Australian pop duo formed in Brisbane Australia. Daniel Jones joined Darren Hayes' tribute band with limited musical experience, and the two broke away to work on their own material. They gained widespread popularity with the singles I Want You and Truly Madly Deeply, and their following debut album held onto the Number 1 spot for 13 weeks - the third longest ever for an Australian artist. The album attracted the attention of Sony's Columbia records, which signed the band and enabled them to reach Number 1 in the US singles chart with Truly Madly Deeply. Over 11 million copies of the album were sold worldwide, but Jones and Hayes grew apart following the resulting personal success. Hayes enjoyed the limelight, whereas Jones preferred to keep a low profile, and as a result their second album Affirmation was written without much personal contact. Despite this, the single I Knew I Loved You gave Savage Garden their second US Number 1. The duo continued to grow distant, and formally parted in 2001 and Darren Hayes has since enjoyed a successful solo career.
