Starting out as a NOFX covers band, Sum 41 took their spiky punk pop from boisterous hometown house parties to worldwide chart glory. Pogo-ing along with wired, teenage energy, their cheeky, raucous rock became a soundtrack to skate culture and positioned them alongside the likes of Green Day and The Offspring. Hit single Fat Lip made the big breakthrough, becoming a firm favourite on MTV and reaching Number 8 in the UK, before debut album All Killer, No Filler (2001) thrashed with goofball humour and adolescent debauchery. Touring obsessively, they played over 300 gigs in 2001, building up a keen live following that continued to support them through the albums Does This Look Infected (2002), Chuck (2004) and Underclass Hero (2007). Front man Deryck Whibley married fellow Canadian pop star Avril Lavigne in 2006, but Lavigne filed for divorce in 2009.
