Sting and co's pop-reggae formula gets an Eighties facelift with atmospheric synths, jazzy horns and a smattering of politically-aware lyrics
Top facts:
- The sleeve's red LED-style images are intended to depict the faces of each band member. From left to right - Andy Summers, Sting (with spiky hair) and Stewart Copeland.
- The album title, like that of Manga series Ghost In The Shell, was inspired by philosopher Arthur Koestler's book The Ghost In The Machine. The author was said to be unimpressed.
- The BBC refused to screen the band's bleak black and white video for Invisible Sun because it contained footage of the Northern Ireland conflict.
