One of the first stars who adopted another personality, Ziggy Stardust was the alien alter-ego of David Bowie. Rumoured to be based on Jimi Hendrix, he was sent to earth to comfort humanity before it destroys itself. The album, The Rise And Fall of Ziggy Stardust, remains a classic, 30 years after release.
