As Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr go head to head, releasing their solo albums just a week apart, it's time to ask, who was really the best member of The Beatles?
When the 1960s drew to a close in one last flourish of tinted specs and wild hair, so too did The Beatles. Amid the ensuing acrimony, however, the four almost immediately embarked on their own projects, all of them releasing solo albums in 1970. Ringo's was a plodder, George's was a grower, Paul's was a contender, John's was a corker.
