The Sex Pistols' 10 most memorable moments

The Sex Pistols

Spray it loud

#4: Road signing

One of the most iconic moments in musical history was when The Pistols signed a new contract with A&M Records (after being dropped by EMI) outside Buckingham Palace in March 1977.

#5: That contract with A&M lasted a mere six days.

At the post-signing party, the band trashed the record company's offices with bassist Sid Vicious vomiting on the managing director's desk.

#6: The beginning of the end

Following continued problems for the band in the UK, Malcolm McLaren booked the band on a US tour. It's widely thought that he purposely booked venues in hostile backwaters in order to stir up trouble. He wasn't disappointed. During a gig in San Antonio, Sid Vicious called the audience "a bunch of faggots" before hitting an audience member in the head with his bass. He also appeared at a gig in Dallas with "Gimme a fix" cut into his chest, before spitting blood at a woman who had climbed on stage and punched him in the face.

God Save The Queen

Noooo future!

#7: ...and England's dreaming

Perhaps punk's crowning glory was when the Pistols' seminal single God Save The Queen, released during the Silver Jubilee celebrations of 1977, was deemed so unacceptable that workers in a record plant refused to press it. Official chart compilers refused to acknowledge its position at number one but everyone knew The Pistols' moment had arrived.
