The Sex Pistols' 10 most memorable moments

Sid & Nancy

Sid & Nancy

#8: "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"

The final Pistols gig on 14th January 1978 in San Francisco ended with a disillusioned Rotten walking out on the band. After an encore of The Stooges song No Fun, the singer sneered at the audience, exclaiming "This is no fun at all", before asking the crowd "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?". He then threw his mic down and walked off stage. Three days later, he'd officially quit The Pistols.

#9: Sid & Nancy

After The Pistols, Sid Vicious moved to New York to become a solo artist with his notorious girlfriend Nancy Spungen acting as his manager. Their mutually destructive, drug-and-sex filled relationship ended tragically when Spungen was found dead in October 1978 at the Chelsea Hotel with vicious stab wounds to her stomach. Vicious was arrested for her murder. Five months later, on 2nd February 1979, Vicious died of a heroin overdose after a party held to celebrate his release on bail. He was just 21 years old.

John Lydon

Johnny Rotten

#10: In it for the money

The most unlikely of reunions happened in 1996 when The Pistols reformed (with original bassist Glen Matlock) for their six-month, appropriately named Filthy Lucre World Tour. When asked how such an unexpected reunion had come about, Rotten, now Lydon, sneered "We have found a common cause - and it's your money".
