Vital statistics: Los Angeles pop quartet The Bangles were one of the biggest chart bands of the Eighties, finding themselves on permanent radio and TV rotation with songs like Manic Monday, Walk Like An Egyptian and Eternal Flame.
High point: It was the group's second album, Different Light, that really made their name. Embracing a more modern pop sound and teaming up with Prince, who wrote Manic Monday for the quartet (credited as "Christopher"), paid huge dividends.
Low point: With the press consistently referring to Susanna Hoffs as the group's lead singer, tensions arose within the band that would eventually lead to their split.
Top fact: Walk Like An Egyptian was amongst the list of songs deemed inappropriate for US radio play following the 9/11 attacks.
