The Residents
Who are The Residents? Nobody really knows - photos like this are the closest you're ever likely to get to the mysterious quartet. Some conspiracy theorists - fuelled by the cover artwork of 1974's Meet The Residents, which mimicked that of Meet The Beatles - even went so far as to speculate that the band were The Beatles in disguise. What does it sound like? Imagine heading to bed after a large serving of particularly strong cheese and dreaming that you're trapped in a fairground surrounded by Papa Lazarou and Willy Wonka's Oompa-Loompas, playing every instrument known to man. In a nutshell - just about as avant-garde as it gets.
