Dance duo deliver the soundtrack to the summer on the album of their lives
If it wasn’t for their regular Lovebox club nights, it would have been easy to forget all about Groove Armada in the five years since their last release (also called Lovebox) – at least in terms of albums, anyway. Conversely, such party-rocking chart-friendly anthems as I See You Baby, Superstylin’ and Easy endure today and make a mockery of any uncool, sell-out criticisms.
Thus, Soundboy Rock is an unexpected summer delight. Via a robust, bouncy, bass-heavy sound and a shedload of in-your-face hooks, Groove Armada have finally delivered a collection that consistently melds pop thrills to the dancefloor. Collaborations galore range from the mighty lungs of Candi Station on the Unfinished Sympathy-esque Paris and soulful house of Love Sweet Sound to ex-Sugababe Mutya Buena and her Eighties synth-filled Song 4 Mutya. Just in time for the sunshine, Groove Armada have reminded us how much fun dance music can be.
