Brazilian five-piece keep to the script for enjoyable second album
It's hard not to like CSS, with their disco beats and their frisky warm-weather pop, particularly when said tunes are fronted by the catsuit-wearing indie Duracell bunny that is lead singer Lovefoxxx. It's also pretty easy to see this, the follow-up to their upbeat and pleasingly-punchy debut, as more of the same: this second album is fizzy, fun and festival-friendly.
And while it perhaps lacks the saucy tingle of its predecessor, Donkey has plenty of high points of its own. Rat is Dead (Rage) brings a flavour of something rockier than previously tasted, while first single Left Behind and the driving fuzz of I Fly are fine examples of the album’s energetic ethos.
Music like this isn't likely to revolutionise your existence, and it's not really clear how the band might move on from here creatively, but somehow, with CSS, these sorts of issues don't matter.
