Enjoyable, mature album from uniquely talented singer-songwriter

Even fans of the most avant-garde music will admit, from time to time, that KT Tunstall is a bit of a guilty pleasure for them. The Scottish singer-songwriter has planted herself firmly in the middle of the road but, whereas her peers from Snow Patrol to Travis simply churn out the same old same old time after time, she maintains a degree of originality which elevates her from the pack.

Drastic Fantastic is less of a short, sharp shock than first album Eye to The Telescope, containing as it does nothing really as unexpected as Black Horse And The Cherry Tree; however, while tracks such as Saving My Face and Funnyman are simply mainstream indie-folk-pop in form, they succeed down to Tunstall’s superb voice, arrangements and harmonies. There’s charisma galore in acoustic numbers like White Bird and Beauty Of Uncertainty as well. Drastic Fantastic is an album lifted above the status of background music by the undeniably superb talent of the performers involved.
