Renowned for playing their instruments - no wait, was that Busted? - McFly have got the "credible boy band" market pretty much sewn up with the demise of their nearest rivals, the aforementioned trio.
This, McFly's third album, kicks off with a real rocker, We Are The Young, and doubtless for their legions of fans it will hit the spot as well as anything they've done to date. There's plenty more of this sort of material throughout the album and the lads obviously like to rock in a youthful, light kind of way. That said, there's still no shortage of the upbeat poppy singalong stuff for which they are famous, such as Star Girl and the Bay City Rollers-sounding Lonely (for the very young among you, Google "Bay City Rollers"; it'll open your eyes and ears to a whole new experience!)
There are slower tunes on here too. Not ballads as such, but definitely straying into Backstreet Boys territory, such as the slushy Bubblewrap and Walk In The Sun.
It's a mixed bag, if only, it seems, to prove they can do a plethora of styles still. In truth, though, McFly generally come up with good, honest pop music, and while much of it sounds like stuff you can hear - or have heard - a thousand times elsewhere, at least they write a fair old chunk of their material, which is no bad thing in anybody's book.
