Will send you to the land of nod

Colorado-based AOR band OneRepublic recently garnered a new degree of success thanks to the Timbaland remix of their single Apologize, which was notable more for the producer's strangled, seal-like honks every four bars or so than for any dazzling songwriting. Cashing in on this success, the band have included two versions of the song on their debut album - along with the single Stop And Stare.

This is a very washed-out affair - crooning, acoustic guitar bits, string sections, booming stadium drums, etc. None of which are elements that can elevate these melancholy ballads and turn them into anything other than truly derivative, lachrymose, cliché-ridden washouts. Lead singer Ryan Tedder's voice very quickly crosses the line from "unspectacular" to "annoying" and it's impossible to differentiate between songs, five or six tracks in. Dreadful.
