It could be so wrong. But it really isn't.

Normally, the idea of a rock band trying to be a bit funny and cute occupies the same space in our mind as, for example, animals dressed in human clothing - you know it's meant to be cute and hilarious, but it's actually deeply unnerving and inexorably wrong. It starts with the Bloodhound Gang singing about breasts, and leads to all kinds of Barenaked Ladies and The Wombats-flavoured distress. PotUSA could have gone that way, with their mid-Nineties songs about peaches, weird girls, animals and dune buggies, but their mad post-grunge musical ability elevated them from the heap and made them a very pleasant thing to behold.

These Are The Good Times People, as usual, tackles unusual and comedic lyrical topics - going out with French girls, the toings and froings of insects as a metaphor for something or other, mixed-up depressed caricatures - and ties them to heavy-riffing rock genius which makes you sing rather than cringe. These are clever songs which toe the line between entertainment value and straightforward rock, and they benefit from it. Admittedly, the whole album will become wearing after a few listens, but some songs on here - particularly French Girl, Ladybug and Ghosts Are Everywhere - rank with Peaches as among the band's best.
