Whenever a band releases a double A-side single, it's hard not to speculate whether it's merely an attempt to compensate for the sub-standard quality of either track. To the cynical, this would seem to be the case with Franz Ferdinand's The Fallen / L. Wells. The former track, taken from You Could Have It So Much Better, is a slightly incoherent, rushed union of Jesus references with a tumbling clatter of guitars and drums, whilst new track L. Wells, although a more memorable and hooky effort, doesn't really live up to a lot of the band's earlier material. For diehard fans only.
