It's like the Eighties all over again - Aussie soap star launches rubbish pop career

There was a time when no self-respecting Aussie soap star would leave the house without releasing a single – a highlight surely being Stefan Dennis (Paul Robinson in Neighbours) with Don’t It Make You Feel Good. Over the last decade of course, reality show contestants have gleefully plugged the Holly Valance-shaped void while a nation has atrophied on the sheer banality of it all.

Thankfully, here to whisk us back to those halcyon days is a debut album by Sky Mangel from Neighbours. With Jason Donovan as a real-life half-brother, McIntosh has pedigree, as well as the prerequisite blonde hair, forgettable voice and complete lack of musical vision. Consequently, Tightrope is more Dannii Minogue than Kylie Minogue.

Misses Lavigne and Clarkson are the benchmarks as this young Australian whines hackneyed tales of being dumped by nasty boys and having a tough time being a strong young woman over produced-to-death soft guitar rock that record company execs might term "punchy". It's just like old times, really. Bring on the Harold Bishop hip hop concept album.
