As the tenth series of Big Brother begins next month, Jade Goody is likely to be at the forefront of people's minds.

Big Brother was, after all, the show that catapulted her into the spotlight, subjected her to claims of racism, and it was in a Big Brother house that she discovered she was suffering from cervical cancer, the disease which claimed her life earlier this year.

E4 has even made a programme about Jade's time in the house, which will be shown in the run-up to the new series, and the show's host Davina McCall is likely to say something about the show's most famous housemate on the launch night of this year's show.

Here we take a look at Jade's life in the house.

:: Big Brother

Jade was one of the contestants on Big Brother 3 in 2002.

While in the house, Jade was thought to have had an ill-advised fumble under the duvet with fellow housemate PJ, famously flashed the flesh one night and shocked the nation with her lack of general knowledge (she thought Cambridge was in London and East Anglia "Angular" was abroad).

But she managed to win over the public as the summer went on and eventually came fourth in the reality TV series.

Jade was able to quit her job as a dental nurse after leaving the show, taking on various magazine contracts.

:: Big Brother Panto

Jade reunited with her Big Brother housemates Tim Culley and Spencer Smith in 2004 for Big Brother Panto. The show saw several housemates from the previous years live together in a lodge while they auditioned for and rehearsed a specially-written pantomime. Jade auditioned for the part of Cinderella, along with Anouska Golebiewski from Big Brother 4. When the director decided he couldn't choose between the two, the decision was put out to public vote. Jade won by a mile, with 83 per cent of votes. She was given dance and vocal coaching, and went on to steal the show.

:: Celebrity Big Brother

Jade fell from grace in the most spectacular way on Celebrity Big Brother in January 2007.

She entered the house with boyfriend Jack Tweed and her mother Jackiey Budden, and the three were told they would live in the luxury quarter of the house, while the other housemates became their slaves.

But it was her comments about another housemate, Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, which grabbed the headlines. They were perceived as racist bullying and prompted an outcry from the Indian and UK press.

The alleged bullying became the subject of questions in the House of Commons and Gordon Brown - then Chancellor of the Exchequer - was forced to defend Britain as a "country of fairness and tolerance" after the incident was raised frequently when he visited India during the show's run.

When she left the house Jade denied she was racist and apologised for offending people, but the damage had already been done.

Afterwards, Jade said she suffered from depression and struggled to find work. Some stores pulled her perfume from the shelves in the wake of the controversy.

Jade later suffered a miscarriage and expressed fears that it was "God's punishment". However, the Church of England moved to reassure her that it wasn't.

:: Bigg Boss

In 2008 Jade sought to rectify the damage done by Celebrity Big Brother by appearing in Bigg Boss, the Indian version of BB hosted by Shilpa Shetty. In her introductory video, she told viewers the incident with Shilpa was "in the past" and that she was "not proud of it".

Things went well for Jade, who took part in a Bollywood dance task, and even attempted to learn a few Hindi expressions. But on the second day she was called into the Diary Room and given the heartbreaking news that she had cancer. Footage of a tear-streaked Jade finding out her fate was broadcast worldwide, and she returned to the UK for treatment.
