Tom Hardy claims Michael Fassbender was the first choice for his role in 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy'.
The 'Dark Knight Rises' actor stars alongside Colin Firth and Gary Oldman in the British spy thriller and although director Tomas Alfredson says he got his first choice of actors for each of the main roles, Tom believes his part of British agent Ricki Tarr was originally due to be played by Michael.
He told TotalFilm.com: "That's not true with me, is it? Michael Fassbender was his first choice, I think. But Michael wasn't available, I got very lucky. So in a way I was his first choice, I was first choice after Michael."
Tom enjoyed playing the character of Ricki, a British agent who inadvertently uncovers a conspiracy that goes right to the highest levels of British intelligence especially portraying how his entire world falls apart.
He explained: "I hadn't read the book or seen the TV series so at first I wasn't really sure of the story. Ricki's a low level operator who is the hired muscle, he does all the dirty work. He comes across a piece of information which is gold but this leads to his entire world falling apart. "
