In 1907 in a London club, Harry Bensley accepted a bet of £21,000 that he couldn't walk round the world without being recognised. Bensley (unfortunately not pictured here) had to wear an iron mask the whole time, paying his way by selling pictures of himself. During his trip, he also had to find a woman who would marry him, push a pram and carry only one change of underwear! It's alleged that it was 1914 when he reached Italy on the home leg of his adventure - when World War One rather inconsiderately broke out and put an end to the whole caboodle.
