World Cup runners-up in 2003 and currently ranked sixth in the world, India are grouped with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Bermuda in Pool B. A sad showing in international cricket of late - namely an early exit in the ICC Champions Trophy and a 4-1 series loss to South Africa - has seen them lose serious momentum ahead of the cricket fiesta in the West Indies, but with many stalwarts and fresh, young talent in the side to bolster all departments of their game, Rahul Dravid's men will still be a force to be reckoned with come their opening game against Bangladesh on the 17th of March. Former captain Sourav Ganguly's recent recall to the Indian equation has definitely bolstered their pursuit of WC triumph too.

A leader who is not willing to settle for average, Rahul 'The Wall' Dravid demands the respect of his team and is always asking for better from his troops. Could be accused of being too cautious in his approach to batting in One-dayers, but once his eye is in there's no stopping him.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has set the world on fire since he set foot on the international circuit and sent many a bowler back to the mark questioning where to bowl to next. His prowess with the willow in the closing overs of an innings is almost unmatched and his effort can often turn an average total into a more respectable one. Oh and his wicket-keeping ability ain't bad either.

Suresh Raina - still in the fledgling stages of his career - looks set to become the next Sachin Tendulkar or Virender Sehwag. Calculated hitting and the ability to pick up singles at the drop of a hat make Raina a must have in the middle-order. One of the better Indian fielders too.

Verdict

India are likely to qualify for the Super Eights but go no further.
